Conway welcomes Northern Trust and EA Games announcements as major boost for wider region

Fine Gael Clare Senator, Martin Conway, has today (Wednesday) welcomed the two jobs announcements by EA Games in Galway and Northern Trust in Limerick, which will create a total of 700 new positions, describing them as a major boost for the wider region.

“It’s been a very positive week on the jobs front, with the announcement of 300 new jobs at EA Games in Galway and today a further 400 jobs have been announced by the Chicago-based firm Northern Trust, which is based in Castletroy in Limerick.

“The Northern Trust announcement is the biggest jobs announcement in several years for Limerick, an area that has been severely blighted by unemployment. The company, which is more than doubling its workforce in the city, has built up strong links with Limerick University and LIT, and today’s announcement should lead to strong job opportunities for high skilled graduates from both institutions.

“The combination of these two announcements will make a significant difference to the wider region, and will undoubtedly lead to additional jobs being created in service industries. The success of the workforce in Northern Trust is also proof that the Midwest can serve as a centre for financial services.

“Having two jobs announcements in a 24-hour timeframe will give the entire region a major boost in confidence, and it highlights the continuous efforts of the Minister for Jobs, Richard Bruton, in boosting jobs in the current challenging economic climate. This Government is focused on rebuilding our economy to one that is sustainable and based on enterprise, IT and innovation. Boosting job creation is the Government’s number one priority, and I look forward to similar positive announcements in the near future.”
