Minister Varadkar supports of Cliffs of Moher 7 Wonders bid – Conway

Fine Gael Clare Senator, Martin Conway, has today (Friday) thanked the Minister for Tourism, Leo Varadkar, for visiting the Cliffs of Moher to lend his support to the north Clare site, just days ahead of the close of voting in the 7 Wonders of Nature competition.

”I asked Minister Varadkar a number of months ago if he could find time in his busy schedule to come to Clare and lend his support to the competition. I am delighted that he was able to do so and indeed his timing was perfect with just six full days of voting left.

“Now it’s time to make sure that as many people as possible vote for the only Irish entry in the 7 Wonders of Nature competition. The Cliffs of Moher have made it to the shortlist of 28 global locations, and we stand a real chance of making it in to the final seven.

“Success would lead to a huge tourism boost; Fáilte Ireland believes winning the competition could bring 35% more overseas visitors to Ireland. This would mean an extra €1.7bn in tourism revenues with a major positive knock on effect on employment.

“Minister Varadkar joins other well know figures including the Taoiseach, the President Elect, Giovanni Trapattoni in lending his support to the campaign. Now it’s time for the rest of us to make our votes count.

“We’ve done very well to get this far in the competition. With a bit of extra effort and determination, I believe we can make it onto the final list of natural wonders. People have until 10th November to vote, so I am encouraging everyone to text MOHER to 53131 now.”
